The story opens with Judas' recollection of a night that took place in his childhood home. As a young boy, Judas excitedly listens to his father telling his favorite story while becoming more and more inebriated, the father respresented musically by Price's performance on drums interacting with the horn melodies which represent the story. The story grows wildly until Judas' mother enters, a cold, distant and controlled character in contrast to the unpredictable and impulsive father. The mother reveals that Judas has been caught stealing food, and the father releases his drunken anger on her before stumbling out the door to go to the pub. Judas then ponders his role in the middle of his parents' marital problems, coming to the conclusion that he must be the cause. This is a formative thought, leading to a misunderstanding of guilt and his own power to cause changes to the world around him. He also is trying to make sense of the juxtapositions between his parents as well as the seemingly inconsistent traits within each character individually: a father who is both warm and chaotic; a mother who is both gentle and distant.

I remember the last time my father told his story.
His hands fell loudly as he told
Of the Exile of the Moon.

I leapt from his knee and fell,
Laughing and angry and prideful,
As my father told
Of the Exile of the Moon.

He laughed as he opened another bottle.
And his story grew larger
Than I’d ever heard before.

Mother emerged from convening with God,
Her face frowning in frozen thought.
She told him of my crimes.
I was hungry…
Stole what I could carry.
Her part was clean.
The booze seemed to spit at my mother,
And the door slammed as he fell into the street,
Laughing and angry and prideful.

I wondered on the Exile of the Moon.

Between the two,
The gravity’s deeper between the two.
Am I the cause?
Between the two,

I don’t like to fall between the two.
